From Betty Crocker’s Cookbook
4 medium (6 small) cooking apples- McIntosh- peeled and sliced into wedges
1/4 cup water
1/4 cup packed brown sugar
1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/8 teaspoon ground nutmeg
Place all ingredients in slow cooker, turn to high, cover and cook for 2-3 hours, until apples are softened.
Stir ingredients together, and mash up apples. (I used a potato masher, you could certainly run this through a food mill to make it smooth, but I like the chunks of apple.)
This would also make a great turnover filling. It’s good warm or cold. Store in the fridge for up to 1 week.
