The Paramount, 44 Charles St Boston, Massachusetts
If you live or have ever visited a friend that lives in Beacon Hill, you’ve been here, or at least seen the line out the door on weekends for brunch. From 7am-4pm the place has counter service, you’re not allowed to sit or save a table, you have to first wait in line at the counter and order from the line cooks and pay. ( If you do make the mistake of putting your coat down or sending a friend to save a spot, you will be scolded.) And trust me, the system works.
The brunch menu is huge- omelettes, pancakes, waffles, fruit plate, bagels, you name it, and then they also have a whole section of sandwiches, burgers and salads into the afternoon. At 4, the place closes for a bit and they switch over to dinner service. For dinner it’s like any other place, seated at a table with a server, and you may be wondering about the ambience- it’s quite lovely. A little candle on each table, it’s cozy. The dinner menu is so simple but everything I’ve ever tried is delicious. Salmon perfectly roasted, creamy mashed potatoes, a nicely balanced apple/walnut/bleu cheese dinner salad, steak tacos, and possibly the best guacamole appetizer I’ve ever had. (Besides my friend Susan’s homemade version!) I could go on for ages, clearly.
I also recommend, the BBQ chicken salad, Chicken Marsala, and the Black Bean burger. Trust me, if I could afford (both financially, and health-wise) to eat here every day, I would.
