Met Back Bay, 279 Dartmouth St., Boston Massachusetts
I’ve been here a few times, was initially blown away, but like love at first sight, it tends to turn out to be a mere infatuation and over time, the shine wears off and you see things for what they really are. For Met Bar, at much as I want to love it, my most recent experience has left me disillusioned and jaded. Ok, not really, but that sounded good didn’t it?
The first time I went to Met, I had drinks & dessert in the upstairs Library Bar. Folks, this is one of the BEST molten chocolate cakes I’ve ever had. Hand to God. Deeply chocolatey, warm, and just the right crumb, it was divine. The next visit was for dinner. I don’t know if it was the combination of good food, prosecco & amazing company, but my meal was fantastic. I had the caesar salad topped with sirloin. The presentation leaves a bit to be desired, it comes in this big deep bowl which makes cutting the steak a bit of a task, but again, the BEST caesar salad I’ve ever had. Everyone else was over the moon about their meals as well- the tuna steak, chopped salad, frites.
This most recent visit, the place disappointed all around. Service was terrible, the hostess was very pretentious and not inviting at all. Look lady, there’s 5 of us, if you were nicer we would have stayed longer and spent a whole lot more money. So there. My food was also sub-par, as were a couple of other meals. The presentation was fun, but I think my fish was a tad undercooked.
Though there is hope, my friend Anne ordered the caesar w/steak. I don’t think she liked it at all.
