Although I may not be cooking, things certainly haven’t been boring in the food department. The only hospital food I’ve been subjected to so far has been a bit of a rubbery english muffin, and a box of cheerios. Otherwise, my fantastic group of friends and family have kept me well stocked. I felt like I was holding court yesterday, sitting here as people came and went.
I’ve had quite the guest list the past couple of days and everyone has brought a treat. Forgive me for the nicknames I give my friends, but I think it gives the post a bit of flair, no? S & her husband, (also my friend Nate, but different than Nate of Nate & Kate, because that would be awkward, duh.) came in the morning with a mini-easter basket of candy, markers & a drawing pad, and most importantly, the newest issue of The Food Network Magazine which is the Italian Issue!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Yippeeeee! Though, I took the “How Italian Are You?” test and am apparently only Italian at Heart. But, I did get the most important questions right- I knew which cheese comes from which animal. Asiago- Cow, Pecorino Romano-sheep.
After that, Bliz (think Brangelina) came and brought me lunch from Pho. It was the perfect lunch, great food, great company, and Ben made a lil’ one serving chocolate cake. Soon after that shift K-Fed from work came and hung out, it was really nice to be able to hang out and talk to him and not be sitting in a cubicle. We were soon joined by Clare, (my dear C$) and Juju. I’m telling ya, this hospital thing is a surefire way to get all your friends to come to you! As for snacks, Kevin brought treats from Flour, and then Clare too brought one of their famous sticky buns. She was very happy that she got one at 3pm, they usually sell out by 8am!! Julie brought more candy, and then the above cookie basket was delivered care of Lauri, KT & LG. So let’s take an inventory:
1. Box of pastries from Gaslight (my Suffolk girls brought those Sunday)
2. Easter Basket of Candy
4. Mini-chocolate cake
4. Chocolate Cupcake
6. Sticky bun
7. Cookie Basket
I think Juju put it best- “They’re gonna fix your heart and then you’ll leave here with diabetes.” True story. I had a cookie from the cookie basket for afternoon tea, but there was no way I was going to make even a dent in the rest of it. Especially since after midnight- no food or water. If I had even attempted to snack my way to midnight I would have been soooooo sick!
My Dad too brought me dinner from Tartufo. E & Brian came last, and E asked if she could bring me a cookie from Paradise Bakery, my text response was quote: Noooooooooooooo. I had too much already!! I sent everything but the cookie basket (you gotta butter up the staff with something!) home with my Dad so I can enjoy it when I get back. It would have been too cruel to have that sticky bun staring at me and taunting me this morning. I’ve already warned the doctors that I will be grumpy by noon today if I am still not able to eat or drink.
