(There is a link to a recipe at the end, but it will behoove you to read this. Yes I said behoove.)
Oh dear. I am officially the worst blogger ever. Do they have some sort of blog version of Razzy awards? I certainly deserve one. Here is why:
1. I am failing in the interesting food category lately. Who wants to hear about my baked chicken…again?
2. I forget my camera all the time. Mom’s birthday dinner I was supposed to re-count, check! Susan & Nate cooking dinner for a crowd last week, check! Oh man. Kelsie’s wedding!
How am I supposed to let you in on what’s going on in La Cucina if I don’t tell you & don’t show you?!
Oh my friends I am so sorry. I promise, pinky swear, that things will be ramping up again this month. I recently received as a gift, one of the prettiest cookbooks I’ve ever seen, good things will be coming from that soon. And then there is Thanksgiving, (if you haven’t already assumed since I love fall so much) my FAVORITE holiday. I love the food, I love the relaxed nature of the day (ie: no awkward opening of presents and “Why thank you! Just what I needed, socks!”), the football, Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, oh. Too many wonderful things to list.
In addition to heading home for the actual day of Thanks, I’ll be enjoying a pre-Thanksgiving, an Urban Family Thanksgiving with Nate, Kate & others in a couple of weeks. What else…. ooh! Belgian Beer Fest- Night of the Funk is upcoming this weekend, while we’ll be focused on the beer, there are apparently plenty of Belgian treats (sausages & waffles, whaaaaaat??!)
So at the very least you’ll be up to date on my social life, is that ok? I may not be the best food blogger, but I’m still new and figuring out what this is supposed to be- the theme, tone, overall message. It’s not that exciting for me to just be telling you what I ate today. Nor is it interesting really for me to only be re-creating recipes from Martha Stewart, Smitten and Miss Joy. (Ladies, I love you all and admire you, but I’m going to have to go out on my own soon.)
I will be honest (and if you’re still reading, you get a gold star for the day!) another reason why I began this whole thing was as a creative outlet and a chance to write, to get some of the crazy thoughts that bounce around all day in my head while I’m toiling away over an excel spreadsheet. Since I’m not writing term papers anymore and most emails are only a couple of lines long, the physical act of typing is completely lost on me. There’s a satisfaction of tick-tacking away, the noise of the keys and the feel under your finger tips. It may not be as nostalgic as good ol’ pen and paper, but in our generation, it’s as good as it gets.
I sort of use this too (if you couldn’t tell) as form of therapy. I’ve explained before how much cooking is a stress relief, so is the simple act of sharing it. Since I don’t have a sous-chef to chat with while my risotto is cooking or someone to share it with, I gotta tell somebody about it! (Well, I don’t HAVE to, but I want to.) Add to it, I’ve been in quite a rut recently and this is the one thing I can control.
I’m officially ready for a change. For now, I’ll keep myself distracted in La Cucina. And maybe have one of these just because. Peanut Butter & chocolate always make everything better. 🙂
