You all know that I seemed to have a busy summer with many pre-wedding activities, and the fall the activity has ramped up even more. I had started this blog as a hobby back in February as my grad school program was winding down. When it finally finished up in May, I thought to myself, “What next?” (Yes, in terms of career etc etc.) But more-so in the sense of, “What am I going to do with all my newfound free time?” If I think about it, I’ve had an activity of some sort, a hobby, a scheduled after-school, extra-curricular thing (more likely things) since I was, oh, I don’t know, 4 years old maybe?
I like to be busy, I like to have something to look forward to. I’m a typical over-achiever- Girl Scouts, dance class, tennis, Key Club, volunteering with my youth group. There was always something. In college it was student government and other random on-campus activities. It’s a big reason why I went to grad school. I was working full-time and without an extra-curricular for the first time in 20 years!
Well, I’m done with that now too, hence, the question, “What’s next?” I’ll tell ya, and it’s going to be so great, but it’s already taking up so much of my time (in a good way!). I joined the Junior League of Boston. If you are new to a city and are having trouble making friends, or even if you you’ve been there for awhile and want to branch out, do some volunteering and add new friends to the mix (ahem, like me) go find your nearest JL chapter and join. The first year is the most demanding in terms of requirements, but it’s also an amazing opportunity to meet like-minded women and have fun with new friends. Anyway, adding the JL to my plate, on top of friends weddings, catching up with my grad school friends, and keeping sane (and also fit, by ramping up the work-out schedule) I don’t have a lot of free time lately. Not to mention that being a social butterfly isn’t exactly cheap.
I’ve had to resort to somewhat of a not-too-exciting and easy to make meal plan this week. My head is just all over the place and I haven’t had the time to really plan anything interesting. So, I’ll show you what I’ll refer to as, the frugal girl’s guide to a cheap & easy meal: beefed up tomato sauce, rice, & broccoli. Even saying it out loud makes me roll my eyes in digust, but, rice was on sale!
At least for lunch this week I whipped up a black bean, corn & tomato salsa of sorts to have with some chicken so it wasn’t completely boring.
However, I’m going to my favorite local farm, Wilson, on Friday so I promise I’ll have some time this weekend to make something worthwhile. My taste buds could sure use it! (Oh!! And I’ll be sure to post pictures of S’s BBQ wedding from Saturday. I cannot wait!!)
