Hi folks! Just coming off a fabulous 3 day weekend, there was lots of good food, a lot of bbq’ing, lots of good friends & good times. I didn’t want the weekend to end, 3 days is just not enough sometimes. But anyway, I will for now spare you the sentimental jazz.
The weekend started off with a BBQ over at my friend E and her fiance B’s place. (I believe I’ve mentioned this before, she too has a B, and so does my friend Clare, it was a confusing year while I had one too.) I wanted to bring a treat so I made these. However, I incorrectly transported them, and this happened:
So, I quickly took stock of things, and said, “Ok, I need a bowl.” Instead of peanut butter whoopie pies, we had trifle:
We also enjoyed some cole slaw, made with thousand island dressing for a bit of a tangy mix-up
B turned on the grill, E made some pesto pasta salad,
And possibly the highlight of the afternoon, I hung out with my love Sully:
What BBQ is complete without a tall, cold, PBR?
Sunday led to more shenanigans, including a lovely home-cooked meal from a dear friend’s mom. Another friend came over and we got to all hang out on the roof deck and watch the sunrise over Beantown, then went downstairs for a great meal of steamed veggies, and sea bass with mango-salsa. And what might have been some of the best home-made whipped cream I’ve had in awhile to go atop some strawberry/banana shortcake. Whew. What a meal! I needed to take a walk after that one.
I wrapped up the weekend up in the ‘burbs . Nothing fancy or over the top, just a quiet afternoon and a simple meal- corn on the cob, salad, & a burger. My Mom got this great no salt added all-purpose seasoning that we added to the ground beef and it gave the burgers just a lil’ something extra. My Mom also came up with these mini-toast apps that were so good: toasted cocktail rye bread drizzled with olive oil, then a smear of hummus, half a cherry tomato, a dash of shredded cheese and her fresh mini-basil, toasted again to melt the cheese and there you have it!
For now, I will not need to eat again until next Thursday.
